Another new business has recently relocated to New London, Minnesota. Timber Cure, Inc. has constructed and moved into a new facility at 312 Oak St. South, just north of County Road 40.
The company was started in 2006 by Jerome Jakobson, Clint Sixta and Gary Lohse. Many of us are probably familiar with these three because of their involvement in other successful business ventures in the area. The company manufactures equipment with automated controls and computerized data recording that is designed to heat treat wooden pallets and other wooden packaging materials for the transportation industry. The machine, called Hea-T-reat, is distributed and sold nationally with plans for further expansion during the next year.. The heat treatment process requires the core temperature of the wood product to reach a minimum of 132.8 degrees Fahrenheit for a period of 30 minutes. According to the three, heat treatment of pallets is necessary to eradicate wood born pests that may reside in the pallet materials and be transported between countries or neighboring states where they may infest and damage plants and forests. Most recently news accounts have reported the Green Emerald Ash Borer infestation problem in several states east of us and the threat that this and other insects pose to our forests here in Minnesota. Treatment is required and regulated under international agreement among countries that are members of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and by programs compliant with International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM 15).
